What Causes Implantation Bleeding?

my period came on the 10th january and lasted for 5 days. i had unprotected sex on th 21st january. it is the 27th january and i have had a little spotting today. it was a discharge with brownish blood through it. my friend mentioned implantaton bleeding, what is the chances of this. i am not on the pill either.
