What Causes Inability To Breathe Through Nose Along With Bad Taste In Mouth?

I've had a head cold for months my doctor won't give me any meds for it because I have high blood pressure.he said to take zyrtec.I have done that but still after 6 months of this cold I cannot breathe thru my nose at all and I havave an ammonia taste in mmouth when I cough.what is it.also the past couple weeks my calves are swelling and painful.
