What Causes Indentation Along With Lump On The Shin?

Hi, about 2 years ago I got kicked in the shin while playing the goalie in soccer. It didn t hurt too bad I guess, but I didn t know what too bad was. It started bruising right away but I had no time to pay attention as the game was going on. I wasn t wearing shin guards either. After the game I had noticed there was a quite large bruise on it and it was swelling slightly. I went on with the rest of my day at school making sure I didn t bump it on anything. I went home and my dad thought it was fine, I thought it was just bruised too. I put ice on it maybe once. After a few weeks the bruise went away, but then there was an indent. It was painful to touch for about a year after though. But not terrible pain. Now there is still an indent in my shin. Yet still a bump under the dent. What do you think happened to my shin? or why is there still evidence of the injury?
