What Causes Indolent Flexor Tenosynovitis?

I had an mri today to diagnose indolent flexor tenosynovitis- I have been told I need a biopsy to determine the bacteria or fungus causing this issue and that after surgery it may be up to 6 weeks prior to being treated- is this typical? Are there other treatment options?
