What Causes Intermittent Bleeding While On Treatment For Exudative Tonsillitis?

My husband was diagnosed with exadutive tonsillitis. He is being treated with antibiotics, but our concern is that in the past 24 hours it has started bleeding. It's on and off, some times worse then others. We are just wondering what this may mean?!
