What Causes Intermittent Light Bleeding During Menstruation?

Last month I got my period and it was very light and only lasted 5 days. This month I got my period and it was heavy the first day; then light then it was gone it came back very light and now it's gone again. I know I am not pregnant because I had my tubes cut tied and burned what could the problem be.
