What Causes Intermittent Pain In Right Nipple?

I am a 49 year old woman. In the past few days I have noticed periodic pain in my right nipple. I am in good health and do not have a family doctor. I do not want to overlook something my body is telling me so I am searching for answers about this issue on my own. Could this be menopausal? Is it something I should be seriously concerned about? Do I need to have it checked or can I do something myself to eliminate this issue? Thank you.
