What Causes Intermittent Pins And Needles Feeling In Hand?

My husband is 75 years old. For a few months , every once and a while his one hand would have pins and needles and it would wake him up at night . Now both of his hands have the pins and needles. He doesn t drink and has never smoked in his life . None of us smoke and never have. He twisted his foot alittle a few days ago. He has a little black and blue on the top of his foot. As it s healed it has a little yellow tinge to the skin on his foot. Now his heal gives him trouble and his calf. Could this be the cause of his hand problem? a pinched nerve or something?
