What Causes Intermittent Shooting Pain In Lower Back?

I am experiencing a shooting pain in my lower back---if I place my hand between my hip bone and lowest rib and push very slightly it causes a burning, shooting pain (kind of like a pinch). Does not hurt my spine. It is worse on my left, but is also felt on my right side as well.
