What Causes Intermittent Stomach Ache?

My 9 yo son has intermittent "tummy aches". I have tried to pin point if its gluten, dairy, or eggs, but have not been successful because they are so random. Our pediatrician says its just a kid thing and he is growing normally. He has no other symptoms. Should we go to a specialist?
