What Causes Intermittent Swelling In Ankles?

I am a senior citizen - occasionally have swollen ankles - last two week have had swollen feet/ankles - feet have turned red - never had this to happen. The swelling started after I cooked/ate a commercial dry soup mix. Can I do anything for this at home, or do I need to see a doctor? I have already asked this question - did not get an answer - just got information about ways to pay for the answer. I perceived this to be a free online doctor service. I am NOT interested. If I am going to pay for a doctor s answer, I will go see a doctor in person.
