What Causes Intermittent Vaginal Bleeding During Menstrual Cycle?

had a period and the first day it was dark brown and spotty, than the next two days a bleed some off and on. I am 43 years old also now it has been a week later and a bleed this morning when I used the rest room and it stop. It feel like I am having a period again and I feel very bloated. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative.
