What Causes Irregular Menstruation Post C-section Delivery?

Hi! I recently had a baby via c section on November 12th. I got my menstrual cycle on January 1st. I started having a brown discharge on January 17th on and off in different quantities but it doesn't look like my regular cycle. I have been having unprotected sex but he has not been ejaculating inside of me. What could this be?
