What Causes Irregular Menstruation?

Hi I am on day 17 of a 29 day regular cycle 2 days ago I had severe right sided pain around my hip and right side of pelvis I am having a light period today brown In colour with mild cramping, a lot when I wipe but not in my underwear quite anxious and worried please help I am 36 years of age.
