What Causes Irregular Periods, Abdomen Discomfort And Spotting?

I'm 21. I have had irregular period for the past 3 yearz. I only get it every second month it only stays regular when im on the pill.But i now have not had it in 3 months going on 4. Have alot of abdom discomfort and slight pain,no spotting. Is it serious?
