What Causes Irregular Periods?

I m 19 - I started having my period when I was 13, however I have never had a normal period. My period usually comes every 8-9 weeks and last for 3-5 days. Is this at all normal or could it be signs of things such as infertility? I have yet to consult a gynecologist about this
