What Causes Irregular Periods?

Hello, I am 25 years old. My periods are not regular.. it was never regular since the beginning at the age of 16. it comes 2 months in time and then is delayed by 6-7 month. I consulted a dr. 6 months back .. my thyroid tests were done everything seems normal... not sure what to do about it. Please consult!
