What Causes Itching And Flaking On The External Ear?

For a couple of months now I have had itching flaking ears i.e. just in the area where you can put your finger inside the outer ear. No redness. Nothing in the folds around the ears.
Don’t know if it’s coincidence but:
About six months ago I got dried up and cracking parts of my fingers, mostly the end area, which I put down to some kind of reaction to weeding in the garden. The cracking slowly heals up but before complete healing then breaks out again when I bend my fingers and the skin cracks open. Over all my fingers have improved and are almost back to normal with just slight hardness on the ends.
