What Causes Itching And Rashes On The Surgical Area?

I had knee replacement surgery 4 weeks ago and last week it started itching and this week i developed a rash all over the leg i had surgery on my doctor told me to take benadryl and use hydrcotizone cream but nothing is helping much its not itching as much as it did but is burning and kind of warm im just not sure what is going on
