What Causes Itching And Red Spot On Leg?

I have a red spot that looks like a big bug bite down on my upper leg by my groin area. It appeared after I came back from the beach. The spot is redish purple and about the size of a quarter. It iches and feels like it may have slight knot in the middle. Is it a ring worm?
