What Causes Itching And Sore Patches All Over The Face?

I was in hospital last week for an operation every thing went well but the day after the operation my face started itching with sore patches all over my face, I have put e45 cream on and used aqueous cream for washing but it has not made much difference it is now very sore and red and itchy where the skin has flaked off.
