What Causes Itching Around Clitoris And White Discharge Under Hood?

A few days ago, I began itching around the clitoris. There is also a thick, white substance under the clitoral hood. It is red and seems to be getting worse. I'm 27 and overweight. I have had one child and we are trying to conceive a second. I haven't tried any types of creams or anything, should I go to by ob/gyn or try something over the counter first?
