What Causes Itching Around The Stomach Area?

Hi, the past few days I've been experiencing itching around my stomach area as if there is something under the skin. I resist trying to scratch, but it is getting worse. I am pre-diabetic so take metformin 2 tabs twice daily and 10mg crestor for cholesterol control. Could itchiness be related to these medications? How should I treat?
