What Causes Itching Around The Vagina Before Menstruation?

Hi, I developed itching around my virgin area three days before my period, there was no abnormal white discharge apart away from the normal that I experience, I am finishing off my period today & the itching is still there, but mildly, I haven t been sexual active in over four months, what could have caused the itching?
