What Causes Itching In Chest When Suffering From Cough?

Hi. I have recently got this really bad cough that creates a constant itching feeling down the inside middle of my chest. When i cough it relieves itself but once I stop the sensation just increases which causes me to cough again. Is it anything serious or just a cold. I am 16 years old, 8st 11 and 163cm
