What Causes Itching In Hands?

Sometimes I feel intense itching on my hands or arms, and swelling of some areas later on. I feel I got bitten by mosquitos since I was outdoors, but I never see them or see the actual bite. Is it possible, or could the couse of these conditions be somethin else?
