What Causes Itching Sensation On Tip Of Thumb?

About 3 weeks ago, the tip of my thumb started itching, now the itch has moved to the inside of my hand near the thumb. The itch is so bad at times I m afraid i will scratch the skin off and draw blood. About three days ago the fingers on the same hand have started tingling. Any idea what this could be?
