What Causes Itchy Brown Spots On The Armpits?

Hi. Recently I have noticed little brown spots under my armpits & infrequently it is also itchy under my armpits. The brown spots are spread over the area and not concentrated in one place. In summer I do sweat a lot but currently it is winter here. What could be the cause?
