What Causes Jel Like Discharge After Having Safe Sex?

I am currently on birth control and have been for a few years now. I ve had one partner for 3 years and have always had protected sex. I just noticed clear jelly like discharge when I went to the bathroom- something I ve never seen before. I should be expecting my period in a few days, but the discharge concerned me. What could it be from?
