What Causes Late Periods With A Negative Pregnancy Test?

i have not had period since may and i have been takig pregnancy test and they are coming out neg i have been having lots f cramps and breast are hurting i went to ER and i was told i have a swollen uterus what could this be i had thought i was pregnant now im confused
