What Causes Leg Pain After Colorectal Surgery?

My husband just had colorectal surgery. He is experiencing leg pain almost like that of having cyatic nerve pain. One side of his anus is numb and sometimes he gets a sharp pain on the same side of his scrotum. What causes this and what can be done for it?
