What Causes Light Bleeding During Periods?

hi i just ended my period 4 days ago and now i am back on it. but my period it is really light and its brown. and when i was on my period it was really light to where i could not even fill a tampon. and i took a pregnancy test 4 days ago and it said negative. so i do not know whats going on.
