What Causes Light Headed?

my son has been getting light headed when he stands up, and he has even fainted. he gets all confused when he gets lightheaded. Last year he had to be taken to the ER because his chest hurt so bad he couldn't breathe, but they didn't find anything wrong. He also gets randomly sick every once in awhile, where he will vomit for a full day then be fine..whats wrong?
