What Causes Light Periods After Withdrawal From Contraceptive Pills?

I have been off the pill for about a year and 4 months now and have been trying to get pregnant for the past 6 months without any success. I am 29 Also since coming off the pill my periods come back as usual but can be normal one month then very very light the next. Is this ok. also what advice would you give for getting pregnant?
