What Causes Light Periods While Being On Birth Control?

Hi... I have been on birth control for over six month and have NEVER missed a day.... I had sex recently but hadnt thought I was pregnant.... my period started yesterday which was the correct day to start, but it is abnormally light. There is some flow and the tampon are mostly full after a few hours... what does this mean?
