What Causes Light Periods With Sharp Pain Near Belly Button?

i recieved my period yesterday but it was very light ( still is) i guess im worried because for as long as i have been having a period i have never started off light or just spotting. i took two preg. test both say im not. im also having sharp pains close to my belly button and have been using the bathroom more than usual.
