What Causes Locking Up Of Knees Along With Severe Pain?

I read someone with similar symptoms to an issue I ve been having. My left knee locks sometimes and its extremely painful to kneel, when i get up it pops. Also on the outside of my knee it always feels bruised but i haven t bumped it or anything. What s going on in my knee?
