What Causes Long Periods With Brown Menstrual Bleeding?

I'm on the pill, and ive tried several kinds of the pill but ive been having extremely long periods. And the blood that comes out is brown and stringy... What's going on? And why won't it stop? How can I make it stop? 3 month long periods are just too much!
