What Causes Loss Of Temper And Self-inflicted Violence In Extreme Cases?

I have a habbit of hurting myself(beating in head/face/chest) when i m left with no way to go. Mean, particularly only when im on heated conversation with my wife, and when she blocks me on all the explanations i give her and finally when she expects a answer i loose my control and getting mad.
