What Causes Lot Of Fluid Around IUD?

I went to dr today for a follow up on an ovarian cyst, while doing the transvagonal ultrasound drs determined a lot of fluid around my IUD, so they done blood work and have to have IUD removed and possible DNC tomorrow. What could cause this? The ultrasound showed no baby.
