What Causes Low Potassium Level And High White Blood Count?

Hi - I am a reasonably healthy 40 yr old female. I recently went to the emergency room for shortness of breath. My lab results showed a low potassium level and a high white blood count. Could these be related and what are the possible causes? I don t have diarrhea, vomiting, etc. I have a follow-up appointment with a physician scheduled for later in the week. Thank you!
