What Causes Lump In Chest After An Injury?

my son in law fell on his chest the other day he has now noticed a lump when palpitated approx. 3 inches above his left nipple and towards the middle of his chest he has slight pain in his chest and back when breathing , should he go to er . could this just be a bruise and he can go to his primary doc
