What Causes Lump In The Upper Right Pelvic Area?

My son has a small lump in the upper right pelvic area. It happened Saturday while playing soccer. He made a kick and then it started hurting. I am trying to understand if somehow he has hernia from this. It is only sore after he makes a kicking motion. It does not seem to be sore or sensitive to pressure.
