What Causes Lump On Lower Hip?

MY 18 year old son just took a shower and realized a lump on his lower hip. He is active in basketball. I felt the lump and it feel relatively hard and doesn t move. But it is a lump. Should I take him to the emergency room or should I call his doctor in the morning and make an appointment? I don t want to panic, but I am concerned.
