What Causes Lump Over A Skin Cut On Wrist?

I got 8 stiches on a cut on my left wrist and under the first 3 stiches there is a lump. It hurts a but but I still have the stiches. I am getting them removed on Monday but I am nervous that this lump is permanent. Stiches have been in for 12 days. Thanks so much for your help.
