What Causes Lump Under Breast On Rib Cage?

My 18 year old daughter has a lump under her right breast on her rib cage. It is about the size of a golf ball. I finally convinced the doctor to do a mammogram and sonogram scheduled for tomorrow. I am concerned about cancer, as her fraternal grandmother died from breast cancer. Is this a common thing with young women?
