What Causes Missed Periods Since The Implanon Inserted?

I had implanon inserted a year ago and since then I haven't had a single period, but today I've found I am having a gentle bleed, I'm not sure yet if it is just spotting or the start of a period. I was surprised as it has been so long since I have had one, is this normal?
