What Causes Missed Periods?

i had missed my period sometimes fell lower backpain but no other signs.Is it necessary to have other signs else missed period.Early i had two misscarriage know i am taking glucophage and folicacid.What precaution i have to take to avoid any miscarriage.My health condition is normal and i had regular periods and it is also normal.
