What Causes Mole On The Side Of Head Near Temple?

I have a mole on the side of my head near the temple and it's about the size of a pencil eraser. I've never noticed anything unusual with it until today. I went up to scratch my head and I noticed that something came off onto my finger, so I went to investigate and I saw that my mole was peeling. Should I be concerned?
