What Causes Nails To Grow Quickly And Strongly?

My nails have suddenly started to grow quickly and strongly, which is something they have NEVER done, I have never been able to grown my nails before. Also my hair has suddenly become curly within the last month. I am 40 and I was wondering if it could be to do with my hormones or are they symptoms of anything I should see my doctor about?
